Welcome to my blog! I'm Stefanie Mendez, a Clinical Dietitian at St. Luke's Hospital and your very own nutrition "interpreter." One of the hardest parts of my job is helping patients interpret all of the mixed messages they receive about food & nutrition. Between the news, magazines, television and things we hear from friends or family, it's hard to know a). What's actually true? and b). Is it good advice? That's where I come in. Armed with a degree in Nutrition & Food Science from New York University, I aim to help "interpret" the information, state the facts and let you know what you REALLY need to know. Please check back for blog updates on new diet trends, food facts and healthy advice.
|What do you like to do outside of the hospital||
As a New York City native and current Astoria resident, I spend my free time exploring everything the city has to offer. I especially enjoy trying new food experiences, from the homemade breads you can find at the Union Square farmers market to the more exotic samplings of a family-run Greek restaurant in Astoria. I would also say my life isn't complete without a good book and a cup of coffee. In September I'll be working towards completing my Masters in Clinical Nutrition at New York University, so my "for pleasure books" will soon be replaced with textbooks and research articles! To this I would have to thank all of my friends and family, especially my husband, for their never-ending support of my career.
